不重要的引言
In recent years, especially since the Trump administration, prospects of a rupture within the American political system have gained renewed attention in both academic and popular literatures. What was once relegated to speculative fiction has - under the weight of mounting polarization, economic divergence, institutional fatigue, and shifting international relations - become a legitimate if not (un)comfortable topic of analysis.
This volume attempts a thought experiment: to explore the plausible pathways by which a federal union could disintegrate into a looser alliance comprised of various autonomous regions. This project does not indulge in sensationalist scenarios, but rather draws upon observable trends and extrapolates from historical precedents - particularly that of the Soviet Union - though in this case, the dynamics are markedly different.
In sum,I hope to offer a measured account of how a formerly hegemonic nuclear-armed state could, under specific conditions, gradually come apart. While the trajectory envisioned in this narrative represents only one of the more extreme and unlikely possibility by which such an event could occur, this volume nonetheless seeks to illuminate the structural vulnerabilities upon which any regime - however powerful - ultimately rests.

作者的心里话,也是写这本书的初衷。
但是怕被审核挂,只能这样了(吸取63/68/97/99/120/137章的教训)。
